Tesla servicing

Published by the Serviced247 editorial teamLast reviewed 24 October 2026

Tesla does not use a traditional annual service. There is no engine oil, no oil filter, no spark plugs and no exhaust, so instead of a fixed yearly service Tesla publishes a short list of maintenance items on their own intervals, plus condition-based replacement of wear parts.

That changes the question owners should be asking. It is not "when is my service due?" but "which specific maintenance items are due, and who can sensibly do them?"

What a Tesla actually needs

  • Cabin air filter - replaced at a published interval.
  • Brake fluid - a health check at a published interval, with replacement if required.
  • Brake calipers - cleaning and lubrication is recommended in regions that use road salt in winter.
  • Tyres - rotation, balancing and replacement on condition; EVs are heavy and wear tyres faster.
  • Air conditioning desiccant bag - replaced at a model-specific interval.
  • Wiper blades, 12V or low-voltage battery, and software updates delivered over the air.

Tesla's own published maintenance pages are the authoritative source for intervals and are updated periodically. Serviced247 does not hold Tesla service records or maintenance data.

Who can work on a Tesla?

Tesla carries out most model-specific work itself, through Mobile Service and its own Service Centers. Independent garages can carry out MOTs, tyres, alignment, brakes, suspension and low-voltage work where they are equipped for it.

High-voltage battery and drive-unit work needs technicians trained and equipped for high-voltage systems. There is no meaningful independent Tesla specialist network in the UK comparable to the independent networks that exist for older German marques, so treat any such claim with care and ask what qualifications and equipment sit behind it.

Serviced247 is not affiliated with Tesla, does not verify Tesla or EV capability at garage level, and never describes an independent garage as a Tesla Service Center or as Tesla-approved.

Tesla models UK owners ask about

Service requirements differ by engine and model year rather than by badge alone. The models below are the ones UK owners most often search about; the schedule for your specific car is the one in its handbook or service indicator.

  • Model 3 - the highest-volume Tesla in the UK; maintenance items differ slightly by model year
  • Model Y
  • Model S and Model X - lower UK volumes, with some model-specific items

Before you book

  • Confirm which service type is actually due - not just the tier a garage offers
  • Get the quote itemised, including oil specification and parts
  • Agree an authorisation limit for any extra work
  • Check the MOT due date and consider combining the two visits
