Tesla maintenance schedule

Published by the Serviced247 editorial teamLast reviewed 24 October 2026

Tesla publishes maintenance recommendations per model on its own site, and they change over time. Always check Tesla's current published guidance for your model and year - the items below are the categories owners typically encounter, not a substitute for that source.

What a Tesla actually needs

  • Cabin air filter - replaced at a published interval.
  • Brake fluid - a health check at a published interval, with replacement if required.
  • Brake calipers - cleaning and lubrication is recommended in regions that use road salt in winter.
  • Tyres - rotation, balancing and replacement on condition; EVs are heavy and wear tyres faster.
  • Air conditioning desiccant bag - replaced at a model-specific interval.
  • Wiper blades, 12V or low-voltage battery, and software updates delivered over the air.

Tesla's own published maintenance pages are the authoritative source for intervals and are updated periodically. Serviced247 does not hold Tesla service records or maintenance data.

Why there is no annual service

Regenerative braking means friction brakes are used less, there is no oil to degrade, and there is no timing belt, clutch or exhaust system. Tesla therefore moved from a fixed annual service to condition-based maintenance backed by remote diagnostics and over-the-air software updates.

That does not mean nothing needs doing. Brakes still corrode from light use, tyres still wear, filters still clog and the low-voltage battery still fails - they simply do not arrive on one convenient annual date.

Tesla Mobile Service and Service Centers

Tesla carries out a proportion of work through its own Mobile Service, where a Tesla technician attends the car, and the rest at Tesla-operated Service Centers. Both are Tesla's own operations, booked through the Tesla app.

"Tesla Service Center" refers specifically to a Tesla-operated facility. An independent garage is not a Tesla Service Center, and we never describe one as such.

Details of Tesla Mobile Service and Service Center coverage come from Tesla. Serviced247 is not affiliated with Tesla and does not book Tesla appointments.

MOT for a Tesla

A Tesla needs an MOT on the same timetable as any other car in Great Britain: first test three years after first registration, then annually. The emissions section does not apply, but brakes, tyres, suspension, steering, lights, structure and the rest of the test all do.

The MOT is where a general garage is most obviously useful to a Tesla owner - an MOT is carried out by any DVSA-authorised test station regardless of drivetrain.

Items that sit outside a routine service

  • Brake fluid - a time-based change on most schedules
  • Coolant and, where fitted, gearbox or DSG oil
  • Cambelt, where the engine has one
  • Tyres, brake pads and discs - replaced on condition, not on schedule
  • Air-conditioning service and regas

Always check the schedule for your exact engine and model year. The definitive source is the handbook, the service indicator and the manufacturer's own schedule - not a generic tier name.
