Volkswagen service schedule

The service indicator tells you what is due. Which regime your car is on decides how long the intervals are and which oil specification is required.
Volkswagen service types
- Oil change service - engine oil and filter plus checks; the more frequent of the two.
- Inspection service - a broader service adding filters and a longer inspection list.
- Fixed regime - shorter, predictable intervals for short-journey and lower-mileage use.
- Flexible / longlife regime - longer intervals for higher-mileage long-run use, requiring longlife-specification oil.
DSG gearbox service
Wet-clutch DSG gearboxes have their own oil and filter service at a set mileage interval; dry-clutch versions generally do not. It is a separate job from the engine service and is priced separately.
Check your handbook for whether your gearbox needs it and at what interval, and ask any quote to state clearly whether DSG service is included.
Service records
Volkswagen maintains a digital service history. Ask whether the garage can update it and what documentation you will receive.
Items that sit outside a routine service
- Brake fluid - a time-based change on most schedules
- Coolant and, where fitted, gearbox or DSG oil
- Cambelt, where the engine has one
- Tyres, brake pads and discs - replaced on condition, not on schedule
- Air-conditioning service and regas
Always check the schedule for your exact engine and model year. The definitive source is the handbook, the service indicator and the manufacturer's own schedule - not a generic tier name.
