Mobile mechanic costs

Published by the Serviced247 editorial teamLast reviewed 24 October 2026

Mobile mechanic pricing has three parts: getting to you, the labour, and the parts. Understanding which is which makes quotes far easier to compare.

How the quote is built

  • Call-out or travel charge - sometimes waived within a set radius or when work is carried out
  • Labour - an hourly rate, or a fixed price for common jobs such as a service or brake pads
  • Parts - either supplied by the mechanic or, sometimes, by you (check the warranty implications)
  • Diagnostics - often charged as a fixed first-hour fee, sometimes deducted if you go ahead with the repair

Price ranges on this page are Serviced247 editorial estimates of typical UK independent-garage pricing. They are not quotes, no garage is bound by them, and they vary by vehicle, parts and location. See our methodology for how we produce them.

Is it cheaper than a garage?

Often, for straightforward jobs, because there are no premises overheads. Less so for anything needing a ramp, specialist tooling or a long diagnostic session - those jobs are usually faster and cheaper in a workshop, and a workshop can escalate without a second visit.

Emergency and 'open now' call-outs

Out-of-hours and same-day work usually carries a premium. If the car is immobilised on a public road, breakdown recovery is often the right first call - many mobile mechanics cannot legally or safely work at the roadside.
