Mercedes-Benz servicing

Mercedes-Benz uses the ASSYST / ASSYST PLUS service system, which alternates between an A service and a more comprehensive B service and adjusts the interval to how the car is driven.

Understanding which of the two is due - and which extra items fall due alongside it - is the key to reading a Mercedes service quote.

Service A and Service B

  • Service A - the lighter of the two: engine oil and oil filter, fluid top-ups, tyre and brake checks and a general inspection.
  • Service B - the more comprehensive service: everything in an A service plus additional filters and a longer inspection list, and typically the point at which longer-interval items are addressed.
  • Additional work indicators - the display may add items such as brake fluid or, on some models, spark plugs and further filters on top of the A or B service.

Content varies by engine, model and year. Older models use different service designations again - check the handbook for your car.

Independent specialist or franchised dealer?

Both are legitimate options once the car is outside its warranty period, and many owners move to an independent specialist as the car ages. An independent that specialises in the marque will normally have the diagnostic software, the service literature and the model-specific experience that a general garage may not.

If your car is still under a manufacturer warranty or on a service plan, check the terms of that agreement before booking anywhere: the requirements around schedules, parts and record-keeping are set by the agreement, not by us.

  • Ask which diagnostic equipment and software the garage uses for the marque
  • Ask whether the service will be recorded in the service book or a digital service record, and what evidence you will receive
  • Ask what parts and oil specification are used, and whether they meet the manufacturer specification
  • Keep every invoice - documented history matters at resale

Serviced247 does not hold verified records of which garages specialise in Mercedes-Benz or can update Mercedes digital service records. Confirm directly with the garage.

Common Mercedes-Benz models owners ask about

Service requirements differ by engine and model year rather than by badge alone. The models below are the ones UK owners most often search about; the schedule for your specific car is the one in its handbook or service indicator.

  • A-Class and B-Class
  • C-Class and E-Class
  • GLA, GLC and GLE
  • Vito and Sprinter (commercial schedules differ)
  • Plug-in hybrid and EQ models - additional high-voltage checks

Before you book

  • Confirm which service type is actually due - not just the tier a garage offers
  • Get the quote itemised, including oil specification and parts
  • Agree an authorisation limit for any extra work
  • Check the MOT due date and consider combining the two visits
