Land Rover servicing

Land Rover servicing is set by the vehicle's own schedule and service message, and the cost is driven as much by the size and complexity of the vehicle as by the service tier itself.
A great deal of what owners search for under "Land Rover service" is actually about service history and records rather than booking work - the two are separate questions, and we treat them separately here.
Land Rover service types
- Oil and filter service - the core scheduled item.
- Full inspection service - additional filters and a substantially longer inspection list.
- Longer-interval items - brake fluid, coolant, spark plugs on petrol engines, differential and transfer-case fluids on some models.
- Model-specific checks - air suspension, terrain response systems and diesel particulate filters.
Independent specialist or franchised dealer?
Both are legitimate options once the car is outside its warranty period, and many owners move to an independent specialist as the car ages. An independent that specialises in the marque will normally have the diagnostic software, the service literature and the model-specific experience that a general garage may not.
If your car is still under a manufacturer warranty or on a service plan, check the terms of that agreement before booking anywhere: the requirements around schedules, parts and record-keeping are set by the agreement, not by us.
- Ask which diagnostic equipment and software the garage uses for the marque
- Ask whether the service will be recorded in the service book or a digital service record, and what evidence you will receive
- Ask what parts and oil specification are used, and whether they meet the manufacturer specification
- Keep every invoice - documented history matters at resale
Serviced247 does not verify which garages specialise in Land Rover. We only describe a garage as a specialist where the garage has claimed it and we hold verified evidence of that claim.
Common Land Rover models owners ask about
Service requirements differ by engine and model year rather than by badge alone. The models below are the ones UK owners most often search about; the schedule for your specific car is the one in its handbook or service indicator.
- Defender
- Discovery
- Discovery Sport
- Freelander (older models)
Before you book
- Confirm which service type is actually due - not just the tier a garage offers
- Get the quote itemised, including oil specification and parts
- Agree an authorisation limit for any extra work
- Check the MOT due date and consider combining the two visits
