Ford servicing

Published by the Serviced247 editorial teamLast reviewed 24 October 2026

Ford servicing is normally sold as a main service and an interim service, with the interval set by time or mileage - whichever comes first - and, on many later models, indicated by an oil-life or service message in the cluster.

Because Ford is the highest-volume marque on UK roads, parts availability is good and independent garages are usually well equipped to service one; the questions worth asking are about oil specification and which items are genuinely due.

Ford service types

  • Interim service - engine oil and oil filter plus a safety and fluid check, typically between main services.
  • Main (full) service - oil and filter plus additional filters and a longer inspection list.
  • Scheduled extras - brake fluid, coolant, spark plugs and, on certain engines, a cambelt or wet belt at a defined interval.

Some Ford engines use a belt-in-oil (wet belt) design with its own replacement interval. Confirm what your engine needs rather than assuming a chain.

Independent specialist or franchised dealer?

Both are legitimate options once the car is outside its warranty period, and many owners move to an independent specialist as the car ages. An independent that specialises in the marque will normally have the diagnostic software, the service literature and the model-specific experience that a general garage may not.

If your car is still under a manufacturer warranty or on a service plan, check the terms of that agreement before booking anywhere: the requirements around schedules, parts and record-keeping are set by the agreement, not by us.

  • Ask which diagnostic equipment and software the garage uses for the marque
  • Ask whether the service will be recorded in the service book or a digital service record, and what evidence you will receive
  • Ask what parts and oil specification are used, and whether they meet the manufacturer specification
  • Keep every invoice - documented history matters at resale

Serviced247 does not hold verified records of which garages specialise in Ford or hold Ford diagnostic access. Confirm directly with the garage.

Common Ford models owners ask about

Service requirements differ by engine and model year rather than by badge alone. The models below are the ones UK owners most often search about; the schedule for your specific car is the one in its handbook or service indicator.

  • Fiesta - the long-running UK best-seller; petrol and diesel schedules differ
  • Focus
  • Puma - service intervals are one of the most-searched Ford questions
  • Kuga, including plug-in hybrid versions with additional high-voltage checks
  • Transit and Transit Custom (commercial schedules differ)

Before you book

  • Confirm which service type is actually due - not just the tier a garage offers
  • Get the quote itemised, including oil specification and parts
  • Agree an authorisation limit for any extra work
  • Check the MOT due date and consider combining the two visits
